The DePuy ASR™ XL Acetabular System is a metal-on-metal hip implant that was recalled worldwide in August 2010 due to reports of alarmingly high failure rates. The recall was issued following data indicating the devices were failing at an alarmingly high rate, causing many recipients to have to undergo a second “revision” surgery to replace the defective hip device. Thousands of lawsuits have been filed against DePuy by those who have had to undergo replacement surgery, seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering as well as other damages.
If you received a DePuy ASR Acetabular, you were probably told it was a modern new design, that it would greatly improve your life, eliminate your pain, increase your mobility, and last much longer than the standard hip implant devices. Now, if, like thousand of others, you have had to suffer through severe pain, adverse side effects, and even replacement surgery, contact us for a free evaluation of your case by a premier national law firm. YOU ARE ENTITLED TO COMPENSATION FOR YOUR SUFFERING.
FINANCIAL COMPENSATION IS NOW AVAILABLE. ACT NOW
According to Bloomberg News, DePuy Orthopaedics has set aside a fund to compensate those injured by the DePuy ASR Acetabular hip implants. ALL DePuy ASR Acetabular Hip Implant recipients are entitled to legal compensation for their current and future health issues related to failed devices. This includes medical expenses, testing, replacement, and may include lost wages, pain and suffering and other compensation.
The hip device’s maker–DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson–claimed approximately 13% would require a second revision surgery to replace the failed devices. Notably however, a March 2011 report by the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Hip Society estimates the failure rates for the DePuy ASR will be four times higher—up to a shockingly high 49% by year six.
DePuy Hip Side Effects
A higher than usual number of patients who have received the DePuy ASR™ XL Acetabular System devices report the following symptoms:
• Pain, swelling and infections around the device
• Trouble walking
• Loose cups(the socket portion of device), cracking, clicking noises
• Metallic poisoning; elevated chromium and cobalt level in blood
• Development of a “pseudotumor” soft tissue mass related to allergic reactions to release of metal particles
When these symptoms occur, it may mean that the hip implantation system has failed to stay attached and is loosening or has fractured.
